I feel like I should say something wise and comforting today. However, I'm not particularly wise, and I've been informed time and again that I fail at comforting.

(Donna says, Underline it. Well, what she said was, "Emphasis on the fail, spaceman." So I fail at comforting.)

So . . . here. The wisest sentence ever written was So it goes. So it goes and so it goes and so it goes.

There are facts in the universe and some of them are uncomfortable. Some of them itch and scratch and make screechy noises. And this is a fact: so it goes. I'm first in line to fight history and I'll be the one raging at the dying of the light, but even I know this: so it goes.

Ch. Sounds similar to something my Master used to tell me. Everything is transient, and for the moment, it is what it is.

Time, you see, is rather my business, but I know very little about it because no one knows more about it than I do. Or something along those lines. But what I do know, is that it always passes. The planet turns, the suns rise, the tide goes in and out . . .

Transient. Yes.

Hn. But isn't time every man's business, in some way or another?

Yes. Transient. He also believed that, because of this transience, it was pointless to waste time mourning the past or worrying about the future. He taught that we should live each day, each moment as it comes to us and then let it go.

That depends: a man's business is generally something he does, and those of us who do time are dying out.

I, unfortunately, have to worry about the future: it's rather my job to be certain there is one.

That's an interesting bit of philosophy. It's very weighty for three little words. I believe I shall have to share that one with my Master at some point.

Credit actually goes to a man called Kurt Vonnegut, jr. He's lovely. Was lovely. I'd like to see him again, actually--writers are always so much fun.

I knew a guy - criminal, but he was a good guy - and he had a tattoo on his arm. Said "This too shall pass." Kinda saying the same thing, right?

[Private to the Doctor]
So Martha kinda convinced me on the time travel thing.

I still don't get why you don't have a name.

Yes, it's the same thing. I like "So it goes" better, though--much more concise.

Sorry, I don't know that boxy thing: I'm glad she convinced you, though. I suppose lying on the internet is as easy on lying on a log, and then falling off it and bruising your backside, but it's much easier to just sit on the log.

I do have a name. It's the Doctor.
